Interview Expo

Format:
On March 15th and 16th, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 pm, 11th graders will arrive at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to participate in the 5th Annual Interview Expo. Students will be broken into three groups. The groups will rotate into an interview room to meet with business and community partners for “practice” interviews. While each group is being interviewed, the other two groups will be participating in workshops designed to support interview skills. Business and community partners will conduct approximately 2-3 interviews per session and will fill out a feedback form for each student they interview.

Pre-interview Procedures:
Using the Interviewer Reply Form sent to each business contact in advance, business and community partners will confirm their participation in one or both dates. Prior to the event, business and community partners will receive an email with sample interview questions and a copy of the student evaluation form to review. A networking breakfast and orientation session will be held for business and community partners each morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. The “practice” interviews are conducted between 11:00 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

Interview Process:
1. Student submits a resume and sample application to interviewer at the start of the interview
2. Student is interviewed using sample questions as a guide (10-15 minutes)
3. Interviewer completes the standard student evaluation form for each student they interview (5 minutes)
4. Short breaks are designated between interviews
5. Academies staff will collect completed evaluation forms from volunteers at the conclusion of their assigned interviews

Analysis and Feedback of Results:
• Academies, Inc. staff reviews the evaluation with each student and provides tips for future job interviews
• Participating business and community partners will receive a summary report of the project
