<p>As a member of the Chamber&#8217;s Executive Committee, Ms. Austen will discuss the Chamber&#8217;s highest-priority goals for the upcoming year. The Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the business operations of the Chamber, as well as approving the strategic objectives of the Chamber and all major policy decisions with respect to the Chamber’s position on matters of interest to the regional business community.</p>

<p>If you are concerned about hunger in the community, here is your chance to help those less fortunate. Join YPN for its third year volunteering with Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, as we sort, organize and package food for local pantries. Philabundance works to end hunger and malnutrition in the Greater Philadelphia region by distributing food to local organizations serving people in need.</p>
<p>Wear closed-toe shoes and old clothing as we roll up our sleeves to help. This event filled up quickly the last two years so be sure to register today to help put an end to hunger!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last spring, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce partnered with Accenture to execute the <em>Designed for Impact</em> survey. The results of this survey provide relevant insight on the impact Greater Philadelphia businesses are making through diversity management practices.</p>
<p>Join the Young Professionals Network for this professional development forum to explore the diverse qualities that young professionals are bringing to the workplace, including their approaches to talent and culture. The program will feature <strong>Kristina Gilbert</strong>, Partner, Accenture and a panel of experts who will examine the results of the survey and explore how diversity and inclusion in the workplace pertains to young professionals now and in the future.</p>

<p>Please join YPN in spreading holiday cheer by volunteering at Turning Points for Children. Turning Points has been collecting donations of toys and books for the children they serve, and YPN will be helping to sort these donations into different age groups. We will also be helping Turning Points decorate their space with holiday décor.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.turningpointsforchildren.org/">Turning Points for Children</a> provides innovative programs that nurture families with children who are struggling against difficult economic and environmental odds.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Join YPN at the Fel’s Institute to welcome Ari Solotoff, Chief of Staff and Director of Planning at The Philadelphia Orchestra.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join YPN at the Fels Institute of Government to welcome Ari Solotoff, Executive Vice President at The Philadelphia Orchestra and Cristian Macelaru, Assistant Conductor at The Philadelphia Orchestra.</p>
<p>As a member of the Association’s senior management team, Mr. Solotoff assists in assuring that the goals of the Association remain appropriately prioritized and implemented. He oversees the design and advancement of strategic thinking, planning, systems, culture initiatives, and fulfillment of the mission established by the Association.</p>
<p>Cristian Macelaru has been with the Philadelphia Orchestra for two years now. He conducts special non-subscription performances and covers concerts, and many of the ensemble’s guest conductors. A native of Romania, Mr. Macelaru comes to the Orchestra from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he served on the conducting staff and recently completed his Master of Music degree in conducting.</p>
<p>Mr. Solotoff and Mr. Macelaru will explore the importance of arts and culture in enhancing Philadelphia and in enriching peoples’ lives. They will also discuss the Orchestra’s worldwide presence, the importance of the younger generation to the Philadelphia Orchestra’s future, and the current development of a program targeting young buyers.</p>
<p>**Please help to make the holidays brighter for the students at McClure Elementary by donating new toys to YPN’s annual Holiday Toy Drive! Toys are for boys and girls ages 6-11. These toys will be collected during the event. Thank you for your support!**</p>

Join the Young Professionals Network in making a difference in our community by volunteering at the annual Back on My Feet Bash. All volunteers will be asked to wear cocktail attire and their favorite pair of sneakers. The event will start off with volunteers greeting companies and individuals as they arrive, working with Merchandise and selling tickets for the raffle. The event will end with volunteers handing out Goodie Bags.</p>
<p>Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. This event highlights the efforts of BoMF’s members, volunteers and supporters in growing an organization that is helping people change their lives.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join YPN at Water Works Restaurant to welcome Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Charles H. Ramsey.</p>
<p>Charles H. Ramsey was appointed Police Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department on January 7, 2008, by Mayor Michael A. Nutter.  He leads the fourth largest police department in the nation, and brings over forty years of knowledge of law enforcement to Philadelphia. During his three years as Police Commissioner in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Police Department has continued to make significant progress in driving down violent crime in the city. </p>
<p>Commissioner Ramsey will give his perspective regarding the challenges of the city, how young professionals can help, and the overall status of Philadelphia’s crime rate compared to other cities.</p>
<p>Water Works Restaurant will offer a 20% discount on dinner to those in attendance at the event, applicable for that evening. This discount does not include alcohol.</p>

The afternoon will start off with a brief tour of the Giving Factory followed by sorting and packing donated everyday essentials ranging from toys, books, and clothes. The event will end with assembling KidPacks that will later be distributed to children living in disadvantaged situations in the five-county Philadelphia region.</p>

<p>The mission of Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is to provide children living in low income and homeless situations from birth to preteen the basic essentials, free of charge, that they need to feel safe, warm, and ready to learn. Additionally, C2C provides a foundation for lasting social change through meaningful, tangible volunteer activities experienced by thousands of adults and children each year.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join YPN at the Kimmel Center as we hear from <strong>Ed Cambron</strong>, Executive Director of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA).</p>
<p>Set to take place next year over a 25-day period, PIFA will showcase newly commissioned works, unexpected arts partnerships, emerging art forms, and classic performances to residents and tourists alike. The first of its kind, it will celebrate Philadelphia’s arts and culture resources, and highlight opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with and support our city&#8217;s cultural activities.</p>
<p>The theme of the festival, &#8220;Paris: 1910&ndash;1920&#8243; celebrates one of the world&#8217;s most creative places and time periods. Over 100 arts and cultural organizations will participate in the festival, with 31 commissions in music, dance, drama, and the visual arts.</p>
<p>Also at this event, the Kimmel Center will raffle off 2 tickets to a special concert with ?uestLove. An unconventional drummer, DJ and producer, ?uestlove launched to stardom as a member of the Grammy® winning band, The Roots. He is internationally recognized for his expressive style, infused with hip-hop and multicultural elements. ?uestlove has collaborated on dynamic projects with musical artists spanning every genre&mdash;from pop to Broadway&mdash;including Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Jay-Z, and Iggy Pop. Win the chance to catch ?uestlove&#8217;s spin on the Paris of 100 years ago as he joins forces with surprise special guests!</p>
