This month YPN encourages you to:
Success in the City
Kenny Gamble, whose name can not be spoken without a hint to his two Grammy awards, has more recently taken on the role of urban redeveloper in his native South Philadelphia. The founder and chairman of Universal Companies is revitalizing neighborhoods in the city through real estate development including educational and retail operations. Matthew Izzo, interior and clothing designer, in addition to the owner of his own stores and brand, is at the forefront of the city’s artistic and cultural revolution. On top of designing his own clothing and furniture, he also runs a salon. Scott Palmer, Director of Public Affairs for the Philadelphia Phillies, is charged with the upkeep of the ball club’s public image. Scott has headed up many community initiatives around the city connecting the Phillies with many local charities. Daniel Stern, owner of Gayle and Rae restaurants, has created unique dining experiences at his establishments. Daniel has effectively set his eateries apart from the hundreds of others in the region through his creativity in selection and presentation of his cuisine. Philadelphia is a city full of hip boutiques, stylish condos, award-winning eateries, a diverse nightlife and numerous arts and culture venues. Because of these things, the city is also becominga great place for businesses, large and small, developers, and college graduates to set their feet. The four panelists are innovators in their fields and have helped fuel the continuing revolution of art and culture in the city and with it, business.
Working Solutions – Don’t Miss Your Opportunity to Change 1,000 LivesWorking Solutions is a Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce youth workforce development initiative, supported by our corporate partner Commerce Bank and WorkReady managing partner Philadelphia Youth Network. The goal of Working Solutions is to provide youth with the tools and experience necessary to become capable and productive citizens and employees. Working Solutions connects the business community with Philadelphia youth through WorkReady Philadelphia’s paid summer internships, mentoring opportunities, advocacy and financial contributions. The Chamber is encouraging members of the business community to provide 1,000 paid summer internships in 2007 to pre-qualified youth; this represents more than a 100% increase in the internship opportunities from 2006. Employer-Paid Internships provide Philadelphia high school students with paid workplace experiences at regional businesses for six weeks in the summer from July through August. The recommended cost per internship is $1,600. Working Solutions is a great opportunity for your business to get involved directly in the community. If your company is interested in investing in regional growth by developing our future workforce, creating opportunities for youth and a path for their future career goals, serving as a positive role model for tomorrow’s workforce, and helping students understand the keys to workplace success, please contact Tara Quay tquay@greaterphilachamber.com or visit our website for more information.
