Recap YPN’s first Professional Development Program: Networking 101This year YPN has created five professional development seminars for its members. YPN held the first Professional Development Program on Monday September 17, 2007. Speaking to a full house was Lyn Kremer, publisher of the Philadelphia Business Journal. Lyn gave the audience tips on how to start conversations with a complete stranger, how to organize yourself for a networking event, even how to dress for the most success. The night was finished off with a trip to Applebee’s to watch the Monday Night Eagles game. We look forward to seeing you at a future seminar. The seminars are held every other month at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s office located at 200 South Broad Street, Suite 700. The other topics for Professional Development covered will be:
Recap YPN’s networking event at The Palm RestaurantThe Young Professionals Network started off its programming year with a sold out event featuring Joe Frick at The Palm Restaurant on Monday, September 24, 2007. Joe Frick is the President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross and current Chair of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He spoke at the event about his personal success, how it is important to have work-life balance, and about his commitment to the community. He also reminded those in attendance that YPN members and their peers are the emerging leaders for Greater Philadelphia. Additional information will follow on opportunities to get more involved. If you have suggestions, please forward them to YPN at ypn@greaterphilachamber.com. The venue was absolutely extraordinary. The Palm provided YPN with exceptional hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and service. The speaker was also exceptional. Join us on October 16, 2007 to hear Brian Tierney, Publisher for Philadelphia Media Holdings, and Eric Grilly, President of philly.com, speak at Philadelphia Media Holdings for what should be another amazing event. Check out the new Chamber Blog to read testimonials from YPN members and to see more pictures from the night.
Volunteer with YPN and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce for Philadelphia Cares DayWhat is Philadelphia Cares Day? Join with the Young Professionals Network as we return McClure Elementary School in North Philadelphia. YPN began its relationship with the school last year at Philadelphia Cares Day and has since had our former chair become the principal for a day, as well as conducted a book and toy drive. To finish the year last year, the network hosted a field day for students with perfect attendance. YPN is happy to be continuing its volunteering relationship with the school and be expanding our activities to expand our impact with the community. When is it? What is the schedule for the day?
