Connecting with Movers and Shakers
Submitted by Anne Madonia, Cozen O’Connor
A goal of this year’s YPN board is to provide YPN members with opportunities to meet, network and build relationships with ‘movers and shakers’ in the Philadelphia community. We’ve achieved this goal with prominent guest speakers at YPN networking events (including Joe Frick, CEO of Independence Blue Cross, Gail Harrity, COO of the Philadelphia Museum), with distinguished presenters at YPN professional development programs (including Lyn Kremer, publisher of the Philadelphia Business Journal), and also with invited guests from the board of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce who have attended YPN events. YPN has two upcoming events that will provide YPN members with unique opportunities to connect with Philly’s movers and shakers. This month, YPN’s Success in the City signature event on May 12, 2008 will include panelists who have brought Philadelphia to the national stage by their brands, their reputation or their impact on the community, and the panelists will be available after the program to interact with YPN’s membership. Next month, YPN’s golf outing on June 23, 2008 will provide one-on-one opportunities to connect because each foursome will include a senior executive from the greater Philadelphia region, and the guests in attendance for the evening reception include additional senior executives.
As they say, “membership has its privileges” and those privileges for YPN members include Success in the City and the golf outing which are exclusive events for YPN members only. On behalf of the YPN board, I highly encourage you to take advantage of your YPN membership and connect with Philly’s movers and shakers. “To be given an opportunity to spend four to five hours on a golf course with some of Philly’s most successful professionals is something I am really looking forward to,” adds YPN board member Pete Shrier. “I'm excited about having the chance to play one of the best private golf clubs in the city! Moreover, the fact that additional Chamber Board members will also be attending and networking with us that evening make it a can't miss event,” adds YPN board member Lawrence Williams. Adding to those thoughts, YPN board member Bernadette Pitts reiterates that “Success in the City is a rare opportunity to interact with a panel of area leaders all in the same room.” “I’m really looking forward to this rare opportunity to be face-to-face with leaders in the Philadelphia region that have laid the groundwork for our future success in this business community,” says YPN board member Tina Greco. So don’t miss these exclusive opportunities to meet, network and build relationships with Philly’s mover and shakers.

On April 22, 2008, Young Professionals Network members attended an event at the newly renovated Perelman Building, part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Those in attendance had the pleasure of listening to Gail Harrity, Chief Operating Officer for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Gail spoke about the economic impact of the museum on the Greater Philadelphia Region in addition to highlighting some of major initiatives that we can expect to see completed with the next few years.
