Join YPN in Providing Opportunities for Youth

Working Solutions is the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce's workforce development initiative. The goal of Working Solutions is to provide youth with the tools and experience necessary to become capable and productive citizens and employees. Working Solutions connects the business community with youth through WorkReady Philadelphia's paid summer internships, mentoring opportunities through Business Mentoring Youth and advocacy.

The Young Professionals Network is asking you to help make a difference. You can help in multiple ways.

  • One way to get involved is by taking in a 10th grade student for 2 to 4 hours a week, January through June, though Business Mentoring Youth. This is an unpaid program aimed at teaching students early on the invaluable lessons about the world of work and interacting with seasoned professionals.
  • Companies can also participate in Shadowing Day on January 25, 2008. This day welcomes in ninth grade students from the School District of Philadelphia to the workplace, paired with an employee, in order to see firsthand what it is like in the everyday working world.
  • Another way to get involved is by offering a Summer Paid Internship for a high school student. This is an invaluable experience for the students; getting a chance to work 20 hours a week for 6 weeks through the summer.

For more information, please visit the Working Solutions website or call 215.972.3732.

Recap YPN’s Networking Event at Marathon Grill

YPN wrapped up the year on an excellent note with an outstanding event at the Marathon Grill last night. Tom Muldoon, President of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau addressed the group. Mr. Muldoon was very candid about the current challenges he faces with the Convention Center expansion project and shared valuable insight about his vision for the future.

The YPN Toy Drive was a huge success! YPN members really stepped up to the plate and provided some awesome gifts. The students at the McClure Elementary School will be pleasantly surprised by your generosity. Thank you very much YPN members...HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
