Opportunity to Exhibit Your Company

Posted May 19th, 2010 by Jessica Bercholc

You are invited to participate in WorkReady Philadelphia’s Summer Internship Orientation!
The Summer Intern Orientation is a kick-off training event for the WorkReady Philadelphia Summer Internship program. The orientation will be filled with information and activities that help youth prepare for work and better develop the skills that promote workplace success. This two-day event will take place June 24 and 30, 2010 at Thomas Jefferson University.
WorkReady Summer Internships provide Philadelphia high school students with paid workplace experiences at area businesses for six weeks during the summer. These internships give young people a taste of the working world, exposure to career opportunities, and an understanding of how school is connected to economic success. The program is an integral component of WorkReady Philadelphia, a broad-based partnership dedicated to building the region’s future workforce.
Over a two-day period, you’ll gain access to an audience of 600 young people (and have an excuse to empty out the giveaways in your supply closet)! Your participation includes brining all/any materials and visual aids (posters, etc.) about your organization that you would like to share with youth. So pack your sunscreen, grab your boarding pass, and get ready for an international adventure!

As an exhibitor r what can I expect?
• Networking opportunities with other volunteer professionals
• An opportunity to interact with the workforce of tomorrow!
Exhibitor criteria:
• Availability on Thursday, June 24 and/or Wednesday, June 30 from 12:15 pm-1:30 pm
• Full set-up and clean-up of materials
Why should I be an exhibitor? Because…
• Participation is easy
• You have access to an enthusiastic and ‘captive’ audience
• It is a meaningful way to demonstrate your commitment to the community

Please confirm your interest in being an exhibitor to Jillian Low at jlow@pyninc.org. Include your name, company name, phone number and email address. You should also indicate the date that you are available.

Volunteer at West Philadelphia High School

Posted April 22nd, 2010 by Jonas Harris

Im writing to inform you about an exciting new opportunity taking
place at West Philadelphia High School. The Community School staff at
WPHS is putting together a new Community Mentoring Program that will
be pairing Community members/professionals/students/faith-based groups with at-risk 9th and 10th graders at West who
are struggling a bit in school and could really use a some
encouragement and motivation from someone who can serve both as a peer
and a role model.

This program involves a small time commitment of about an hour a week
in addition to 1 or 2 training sessions with the staff. The nature of
the program is basically like a big brother big sister program where
you will meet one on one with your mentee and talk with them, with an
occasional field trip or lunch thrown in to sweeten the deal. This is
the first semester of the program and so it will only run for about
4-5 weeks, so you don’t have to worry about a long term commitment at
this point. Meetings will most likely take place after school from
3-4pm.

Attached is a document outlining the rewards and responsibilities of
the program. If you are interested in participating contact Jonas
Harris at jonha@sas.upenn.edu or call 267-315-5087
