Business School Blueprint 2011
Featuring the First Annual MBA Night
Started early, done right: that’s your business school application in 2011 when you start in January. Business School Blueprint 2011 is a five-day free program from Kaplan GMAT that will address the key questions about the MBA – whether it’s right for you, what programs you should target, and how to get in. The competition is stiffer than ever, but by starting in January, you can assemble an optimal, standout application.
• Business School – Why and Where to Go (live online, Sunday 1/23 9 PM EST.)
In this seminar, we’ll kick off the program and address the following topics: the traditional (and less traditional) reasons to pursue the degree; full-time vs. part-time vs. EMBA; the ROI and financing of an MBA; the elements of the application; assessing your competitiveness as a candidate; and how to identify your target schools.
• The Perfect B School Application (live online, Monday 1/24 9 PM EST.)
Your application is a balanced portfolio of academic and work experience, your GMAT score, application essays, recommendations, and your networking and research. This session will lay out a step-by-step plan to prepare each part in the coming months. You’ll walk away with a concrete timeline that you can import into your calendar of choice.
• Assessing (and Improving) your Resume (live online, Tuesday 1/25 9 PM EST.)
Some parts of your application can be changed and some can’t. Your resume – both the document itself and the experience it reflects – can’t be changed overnight, but it’s not set in stone. You’ll walk away from this session with an improved resume and an idea of areas that need to be addressed and how.
• 100 Hours: a GMAT Study Plan (live online, Wednesday 1/26 9 PM EST.)
The average 600+ and 700+ scorer prepares 100 hours for the GMAT. So, at 2 hours per day, you should plan for 2 to 3 months of preparation for the test. In this seminar, we’ll introduce the test and you’ll walk away with a specific outline for GMAT preparation and links to various resources.
• First Annual MBA Night (at City Tap House, 3925 Walnut Street, Terrace Level in the Radian, Thursday evening , 1/27, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.)
The First Annual MBA Night will be an opportunity for you to meet informally with alumni of MBA programs (Cornell, Emory, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Villanova and many more. You’ll get a feel for different programs, get your questions answered, and start building what business school is known for – a strong network with whom you can have a great time. And to help make sure all registrants have a great time, the first round is on Kaplan. (Must be 21 or older to attend.)
FREE registration for all events here: http://bit.ly/blueprint_ypn
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday the 27th at City Tap House.

PAFA After Dark: Full Frontal
Posted October 20th, 2010 byThursday, November 4th
6 to 9:00 p.m.
Exhibition on View:
Narcissus in the Studio: Artist Portraits & Self-Portraits
Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building
Beginning this fall, PAFA is opening its doors at night to invite members and the public inside for evenings of fun, flavor and friendship. Guests will be invited to mingle in the galleries, enjoy signature cocktails and delicious food, revel in good music, explore the galleries on their own or with guides, and experience Para’s art treasures under the provocative blanket of night.
This first event will showcase all of PAFA’s “choicest bits” during its program premier, proving the naked awesomeness of what a museum can be when it reveals itself fully to visitors. Taking place within the galleries of the museum’s recently-opened exhibition Narcissus in the Studio, composed entirely of artist’s self-portraits and portraits of each other, the evening will feature a Naked at Night Scavenger Hunt, signature cocktails sponsored by Capital Wine and Spirits, a Full Frontal Nudity Gallery Talk, and a one night only art project organized by the artist collective Space 1026. A musical performance by the West Philly Orchestra will strip audiences of their perceptions of what an “orchestra” really is, with a bold, unflinching sound rooted in Eastern European folk music traditions, but dressed in the sounds of twenty-first century Philadelphia, voices nourished by our jazz heritage, tinged with punk rock, soul, and cheesesteaks.

Volunteer on Election Day with the Committee of Seventy
Posted October 20th, 2010 byDon’t believe the non-hype; this election is critical. On November 2nd, the votes cast in Philadelphia may well determine our next governor and U.S. Senator, as well as the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives and the State legislature.
That’s why we need you to volunteer on November 2nd. People trust the Committee of Seventy to be the nonpartisan champion of fair elections in Philadelphia, and the service that Seventy volunteers provide is invaluable. As a Seventy volunteer, you will visit polling places with a partner on Election Day and answer questions from “Where’s my polling place?” to “They don’t have my name on the rolls. What do I do?”
Sign up today at www.seventy.org/volunteer.
Better yet, volunteer with a friend or two. We’ll pair you up. We will provide training, materials, and the 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline so you can answer your neighbors’ questions (small and large) and help ensure a smooth voting experience for all.
There are several convenient trainings scheduled at our office in Center City, as well as various locations throughout the city.
Thank you! The Committee of Seventy is pleased to invite you to join us as we work for clean and effective government, fair elections, and informed citizens.
For more information, please contact us at flancos@seventy.org or 215-557-3600 x107.
